Mary Fauvre has been working in the field of education since 1973. Her work has focused on affective education, with a major emphasis on developmental learning theory. Most of her studies and teaching have been directed towards understanding how we learn to understand ourselves and others. She has provided workshops and presentations to schools on the critical topic of how to develop empathy.

Dr. Fauvre has taught at every grade levels from preschool through college. Her classes at Cal State University and Pacific Oaks were in child development and developmental psychology. She is currently Head of School at The Oaks School in Hollywood. The Oaks is a Kindergarten - 6th grade co-ed day school with a progressive, developmental approach to education. For the eleven years prior to her Headship at The Oaks, Dr. Fauvre was Director of Lower and Middle Schools at Westridge School for Girls. At Westridge she co-directed the Skills Enrichment Program for upper elementary school students from the Pasadena Unified School District.

From 1984 through 1989, Dr. Fauvre worked with the Child Development Services at UCLA Medical Center. A portion of her work was from a grant funded by the Office of Education to study the effects of long term hospitalization on the social and emotional development of chronically ill children. She also directed the child development program and worked with the parents of the patients.

Dr. Fauvre did her undergraduate work at Stanford University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and English. Her Master's is from Harvard Graduate School of Education in Human Development. She received her doctorate in Educational Psychology and Developmental Studies from UCLA, where she co-authored a curriculum guide to teach empathy to elementary school children, Learning to Care.
